Let's Take it Back to the Basics: Skin Care 101

Skincare basics involve a simple and consistent routine to promote healthy skin. Although we can often all get carried away with new and exciting skin care products, it is important to also be reminded of the simple basics that we should all still be following in our everyday routine! This blog post will be walking you through these fundamental steps and refreshing you on the skin care basics that we should all be implementing into our everyday routine!

Cleansing

Cleanse your face and hands twice a day, morning and night, to remove dirt, oil and impurities. Choose a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type. Massage the cleanser onto damp skin, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, and pat dry.

Toning

After cleansing, use a toner to help rebalance the skin’s pH level and remove any remaining traces of dirt or cleanser. Apply the toner to a cotton pad and gently swipe it over your face in order to remove these traces.

Moisturizing

Apply a moisturizer suited to your skin type to hydrate and nourish your skin. Moisturizers help to lock in moisture, strengthen the skin’s barrier and to keep it supple. Apply it to your face and neck using upward motions only!

Sun Protection

Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 or higher every day, regardless of the weather. Sunscreen helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays that can lead to premature aging, sunburn and skin cancer. Reapply every two hours or more frequently if you’re swimming or sweating.

Exfoliation

You should only be exfoliating 1-2 times per week. Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, unclog pores and improve skin texture. Use a gentle exfoliator or chemical exfoliant suitable for your skin type. Avoid over-exfoliating, as it can lead to irritation or dryness.

Customize for Your Skin Concerns

If you have specific skin concerns, such as acne, aging or hyperpigmentation, incorporate targeted treatments or serums into your routine in addition to these other steps. Consult with a dermatologist or skin care professional for personalized advice.

PAUME Takeaways

Remember, everyone’s skin is unique and requires different things to thrive, so it is essential to pay attention to how your skin responds to different products and to then adjust your routine accordingly. It’s also a good idea to patch test new products before applying them to your face to check for any adverse reactions. If you are just getting started on your skin care journey, following these steps will be a great place to start as it covers all of your basic skin care requirements!
